Argh!! After many years of use, it appears we have lost our Rick Steves packable duffle bag. Last seen in Sydney, Australia. I am so bummed! They no longer sell them on this site, so I'm wondering if anyone knows where to find something similar. It was a black bag, squared-off duffle shape, with a shoulder strap. It folded up into its own self pouch, about 5"x7" in size. It was apprx. 20"x9"x10" when unfolded. It was super light weight fabric but super tough. Rick is peddling something similar, but it is a tote bag. I don't like that. I want the duffle bag shape. Any ideas?
REI has a couple of things that look at least partly like what you're looking for. http://www.rei.com/product/809162/rei-stuff-travel-duffel http://www.rei.com/product/829669/sea-to-summit-travelling-light-duffle-bag So does Timbuk2 http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/hidden-bfd-duffel-bag
Thanks for the suggestions, Sarah. Living in the land of REI, I have already checked out their duffel options. I actually have one of the ones you suggested, but they are quite a bit larger (when folded up) and heavier than the RS bag I lost. Still hunting!
Angela, Here are a few ideas you could check out..... http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packable-duffel/d/1121 (available on Amazon) http://www.travelsmith.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/packable-duffel/583897?redirect=y Good luck!
OOh--thanks Ken. That Eagle Creek one looks like a contender. I like that it weighs only 8 oz.
Angela, also check out the Patagonia Lightweight Travel Duffels (they have several). I'm using one as my main bag because it is so lightweight.
Wide ion on this page at eBags http://www.ebags.com/category/travel-accessories/packable-bags I have been searching for the perfect packable bag - having tried oh-so-many over the years. I currently have the baggallini zip out shopping bag in medium size, aqua blue. It currently has more pros than cons, but I will keep looking. :)
I have ones I really like from both Eagle Creek and Baggilini. Just check carefully, because each vendor has a range of weights. The ones I have are very lightweight, but I've used them to pack virtually all my clothes and other essentials when I find I have to check my normally carry-on luggage.
Ah, ok. I didn't pay attention to where you were. If you're heading up to Vancouver any time soon (or willing to pay the shipping) MEC also has a lightweight duffle. http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Travel/LuggagePacks/PRD~5023-573/mec-travel-light-duffle-bag.jsp
Angela, here's another one you might check out, it folds up really, really small. http://www.amazon.com/Kiva-Key-Chain-Duffel-Black/dp/B000UCBAMU
