That was a nice article. I saw it this morning in my email but hadn't looked at it yet. He seems to have a good sense of self and what he's doing and makes no apologies.

I like to say in my lectures there are two I.Q.s of European travelers: those who wait in lines and those who don’t. I see people walk by something, and they see a line, and they get in it before they know what the line’s for! I go the other direction when I see a line like that.

This made me laugh. I'm definitely with him in this. I will do anything to avoid a line.

Rick’s interview was interesting on a couple of levels. His remarks about being a tourist, or a traveler or a pilgrim … or a bit of more than one of these, merits active listening and reflection. What type of experience do I partake? What types of experience do RS tours offer? What do his guidebooks and shows encourage us to do? Where does this forum lead you? Or me? Are his three categories right? Sometime I think of myself as a visitor - where does that fit?

I think Rick has helped many of us and this forum certainly does that.

To what extent has Rick created more tourists than travelers? Rick spoke to his awareness of the good and the harm his life’s work - his mission. Where do our experiences and travels place us? How might we travel better?

Heal well, Rick. Keep on growing.

Oh, my. I just watched it, and I think it is one of the most thoughtful, insightful interviews I've ever seen.
