Are you a fan of the Rick Steves philosophy of travel who lives in the Phoenix area? This Thursday evening at 7:30 PM we are meeting at Rula Bula, an Irish pub on Mill Avenue in Tempe. We are a small, welcoming group....no format or stipulated topic, just a fun (often hilarious) chat about travel during which many tips and stories are shared. For more info (including parking tips) go to www.meetup.com/Rick Steves Fans Travel Chat, Phoenix Area.
Hey, are there ever any RS Fans gatherings closer to Tucson? I Google mapped from my house to this location and it is over 125 miles!
Do as I did, and start one! It was easy, using meetup.com. We are not officially affiliated with the Rick Steves organization (though I once talked to Bruce in their office, who told me that they are fine with the idea.) We are still a small group, but we always have a great time! The other members have motivated me to be more adventuresome (I've just booked my first hostel stay, at the age of 65, and my first solo trip.)
Lo,
Or you can do as the rest of the groups have done and get one going through this Helpline. When I saw there was a group in Denver (they were the first) I thought it sounded like fun. I just posted under General Europe asking if there was anyone in the Sacramento area that was interested in meeting. That was over 2 years ago. We've been meeting monthly since then, adding people along the way. There are regulars, and there are others who come when planning a trip, but don't return. Some of us are active on the Helpline, and others not as much or at all. Still, the one thing we have in common is our love of travel. Sometimes it can take a few months to get it going, as other groups can attest to. Hopefully there are some people in your area who would like to get together.
