Rick Steves 21 Day European Tour Question

For those who have been on the 21-Day RS Tour, I have a couple of questions:

  1. Do all the hotels on the tour have hair dryers? Looking to buy a dual-voltage one, but not sure if I need it.

  2. On the 2nd day of the tour while in Amsterdam, what time are we done after the boat ride? Wanting to get a timed ticket to goto the Van Gough Museum.

Thank you.

Re: the hair dryers, the best you are going to get is "probably" at this point. If you definitely have to have one each day, I suggest you wait to get the tour hotels list and then verify with each one. They are a pretty standard amenity, but some smaller hotels don't include it, or you have to request one in advance.

It’s been a number of years since I did this tour but all rooms had hair dryers. In fact every tour room since then (and there have been lots!!) had hair dryers.

I would check with the office on the particular timing for your tour departure. On my tour years ago we finished the boat tour about 530 down in the red-light area so it would have been a pain in the neck to get back to the Van Gogh and also not enough time before closure. Now I don’t think tour groups are allowed to go thru the Red Light district so timing may be different.

Any chance you can arrive a day or two before?

If not I’d give up the boat ride to see the Van Gogh Museum. BTW, I recommend you start by taking the elevator to the 3rd floor where the “good stuff” is and working your way down.

We took a 14 day Rs European tour and every hotel had a hairdryer but many times I had to ask for it at front desk .
