Rick's Travel Bag Sale

For anyone considering a purchase of one of Rick's main travel bags, are you aware they are on sale for 25% off through the end of March?

(I had to post this in the form of a question. Board rules.)

My husband and I each bought a convertible carry-on for our upcoming trip to Italy/Germany in the fall. I am going to "road test" mine next month when I go to NYC. If I can't handle carrying the bag on my back for that trip I will reconsider it for a 4 week trip.

Andrea, I've worn my classic backdoor bag for several years with no problem. I had neck surgery last year and was afraid it would put an end to my backpacking, due to pressure on my shoulders, etc.

My physical therapist told me I'd be fine if I don't sling it over one shoulder, and also if I use the straps that go around your hips/waist, so that all the weight isn't hanging on those poor muscles going between your neck and shoulders.

I'd almost not noticed the waist straps, but as soon as I tried them I was amazed at the difference it makes to distribute the weight. They aren't necessary for short distances, but if you're trying to cover any distance they're great! These backpacks are still the smallest/lightest/most mobile option (in my humble opinion) and I'm going to keep it up as long as I can.

Hope this is a helpful tip.

Frank II, thanks for the heads-up. Just bought 2 Back Door bags ($4 premium for slate gray?) for our next trip. It'll be a nice upgrade from our duffels!

I bought a slate convertible carry-on two years ago for our Europe trip. It worked out very well, no problems, but then when I used the bag a few weeks ago for a local trip the zipper broke. I emailed RS site and they sent me a new bag immediately. I guess they had a past problem with zippers on the slate bag. I was extremely pleased with the fast service and happy that they stand behind their products.
