Rick's guidebooks outside USA

I am going to France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland next month. I am in India now and bookstores do not carry Rick Steves' books. I do not have time to wait until Rick ships me books here. I can ask a friend to bring me one book and I will order Best of Europe.

But I do not feel comfortable without detail country books and other guide books are just not what I am used to. Does anybody know if these books are available somewhere easily in Europe? We are flying into CDG, Paris. We rent a car and head southward the next morning.

Appreciate any help.

Hi, Alpha. I was able to find lots of country specific travel books in English all over Europe. I bought my first one in Munich, I think another in Vienna, and one in Slovenia. Had no problems, just looking for the biggest book store in town. Sorry I don't have specific names for you, but hopefully that allays your worries some! :) Chris

click here to contact the Rick Steves staff and ask them for a list of bookstores that carry his books. We on the Helpline are just volunteers.

Alpa - I'm not sure about the countries you mention, as I have not looked there, but here in Italy RS books are avialable in the English speaking sections of most of the larger bookstores - so I would imagine you could fine them all over Europe (I have seen them in Prague!).

Here's the bad news. The US price listed on one RS book I saw was $17.95. The price from the bookstore: €24. So that's about $29 at the current rate of exchange. So yes, they're available, but they are expensive (perhaps because they're imported - LOL!!)
