We went to the taping of the show tonight here in Seattle. We sat near the front, and my husband pointed out that Rick Steves was seated across the aisle, one row up. Turns out he was the featured guest for the "Not My Job" game. He did well, and was very funny. You can hear the show on NPR this Saturday. It will be interesting for us to hear how much they left in--- and what they took out.
Oh that's a good one to look out for...
We listen over dinner every week; Wait Wait is one of our favourite shows.
Not the same since they added so many ads in, and lost Carl Castle. I always wanted him to do my answerphone....
It will be interesting to hear Rick...
Yet another reason we like you Nigel. :-)
Nigel---You can still get Carl Castle on your phone if you win. He still does that, but he isn't up on the stage looking so elegant in his suit any more.
The focus of the early part (the news quiz) was on the Scotland vote. It was interesting---they had to do it twice, alternative versions to cover whichever way the vote came out (the outcome had not been decided at the time of the show). There was some hilarious dialog poking fun at Americans who have no idea about the makeup of the UK and the Commonwealth. And then a segment on the ever-popular fanny pack.
There was a little problem with Rick's mike for part of it so I am not sure how much of what we heard will stay in, but he was very funny. Especially the marihuana jokes (with a reference to the "lower 48" as the states where it is not legal).
. . . Leaving the "Higher 2," I suppose. At least most of the air here at altitude is still un-smoky (except when there's a forest fire or the occasional diesel pickup truck), and the majority of baked goods still won't get you baked as well.
Lola, I'm so glad you were able to see this! Rick was super excited to be on. I can't wait to hear it! Thanks for posting about it.
Oh I thought he would find a way to work that in....
I did know about the voice on the answering device but it is just a remnant.
I thought that the way he recited the limericks was better, too. Oh well, I'm just an old fuddy duddy...
