Here at KPBS in S.D., the phone support folks said he was "Live,"
but they wouldn't forward any questions.
What's that all about?

Not live is the norm, no problem.
Just don't tell hapless volunteers to claim otherwise
when someone like me calls in.
I actually did get him on the phone once. Shocked the HECK out of me :) I figured it was a taped appearance, but was re-newing anyway and he picked up the phone! LOL!
What PBS does is have some of their "stars" tape segments on a generic set. The "host" is not someone you see on your local station nor does the "host" mention the call letters. It seems like it's local, but it's not.
It's a lot easier than having RS travel all of the country.
He's live.....just not at that moment.
He was on KCTS PBS in Seattle last week. I renewed, and I am quite sure he is live. Besides, Seattle is just down the road from his home a few miles north in Edmonds, so he gets to go home in the evening. A few years ago, I asked a question and it was answered on air.
I always wait for the yearly fundraising when Rick is on air to subscribe. I am happy to subscribe, and I always get the new ETBD book. I often give this away to someone going on a trip.
We get a Canadian tax credit for supporting an American television station - not too bad.
There are two PBS stations in Tampa. The same taped fundraiser with Rick and a non-local host aired on different nights.
In the past there would be live fundraisers with local phone banks and Rick would take questions.
There may still be some markets where there are live fundraisers.
Rick was here in the San Francisco Bay Area LIVE last Saturday on KQED. Then we had re-runs over the weekend with no call-ins. I think his schedule is probably available somewhere on this website.
