Reviving travel addiction posts.

I was doing a search on the Forum for something when I came across this post from Tammy from 4 years ago which was linked to a post from Zoe from 2017 about being a travel addict. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/you-know-your-a-travel-addict-when

I had to laugh at this one;

You've been home for months and there are more euros in your wallet
than $US (or local currency).

Ha! I have exactly $0 of local currency at home but have 1000+ of € and £. It'll be a long time before I go to the bank again.

I'm currently doing in-depth planning for 4 trips with no firm dates in mind yet of when I'm doing them.

  • Austria, from Vienna to Innsbruck, then adding on Northern Italy.
  • London plus Northern England to complete my 'Last Kingdom' adventure.
  • Nice for 30 days.
  • Naples and Capri, plus Rome?, Florence?

Maybe it's time to revisit these last two posts....my name is Allan and I have a travel addiction. What about you?

Allan, my grandson asked for a quarter last week. I searched the bottom of my purse where loose coins tend to accumulate. I had to sheepishly tell him Grandma didn’t have a quarter but I could give him a Euro……. I wonder if that is as much a function of operating pretty much cashless here in the US as well as being a travel addict.

One indicator to me was when people started asking me when I was leaving on my next trip. They all knew I had to have at least one planned and coming up.

I have been known to book future trips while sitting in a hotel room in Europe. We returned home from England a little over two weeks ago. We currently have trips booked for September 2026, April 2027 and September 2027. I’m not happy unless I have at least one pending plane ticket. I just started using the flight countdown widget on my phone. Currently at 98 days.

When I approach my husband with a pen and paper, or a video on YouTube, or say "I have an idea!", I have to quickly add "It's not travel related!" and watch him physically untense. Because apparently I talk about travel too much. Pfft.

Ask me about walking Caminos. Fully addicted. Every store, I look at stuff and think wow, that would be great on a Camino, or I wonder how much those socks weigh. As soon as one is finished, I start planning the next one. 6 done, #7 planned for Sept.

You may be a travel addict when your passport never leaves your purse - even when at home. Who knows when I may need to book a trip and leave for the airport in 30 minutes!

Leaving tomorrow for the next 7 week trip.

I wish I could travel as much as I love it, but limited time-off, family obligations and budget keeps my "addiction" controlled. Except compulsively checking all trips daily for better seats.
I currently have 5 "trips" saved on Delta between June - November, plus a road trip with family.
When I bump on someone around town that I haven't talked to in a while, the first thing they ask me "where are you headed next?".

Ask me about walking Caminos.

Ms. Jo - I have wanted to do Camino for a long time but waiting for kid to get a little older since it's hard to leave home for over 2 weeks due to work and no family nearby to help out. BUT, Camino is one of the contenders for my 50th travel trip in a couple of years. Which route has been your favorite?

From June-Oct 2019, I went to Europe 3 times. Then in Dec of 2019, I took 3 domestic trips. That(with help from Covid) ended by addiction. Now I haven't been to Europe since 2022, but did go to Australia and New Zealand in early 2024.

Carol NR that made me laugh! I had a similar experience a few weeks ago when my seven-year-old grandson came up to me and offered to do a job for me if I could give him some money. I told them I would have to check to see how much I had, so I pulled out my wallet. It contained nothing but Euros and some Romanian coins.

He looked at it and then said indignantly, "Oma, this is fake money!"
