Hi everyone. My Allianz annual insurance expired when I got home from June's trip. I'm rethinking what I want to do for August/September trip and a possible trip in June or July. Medjet (annual) is a given. But instead of Allianz, I'm thinking of using GeoBlue Trekker (annual) for medical. I can buy it just before my trip and still have pre-exisiting coverage, plus it's cheap. I don't remember any comments about GeoBlue good or bad. Anyone have any opinions? As for travel coverage I can do a cheap Alliance Basic 1-Trip to cover trip costs if I feel it becomes necessary. Medical and Med Evac are my primary concerns since some of my meds have changed.
Thanks!!
I used GeoBlue for my travel medical for a number of years up to 2022. Fortunately I never had to use it, but their online tools are pretty good, including helping to locate local providers who speak English. Their rates were good too.
Thank you Plumeria54. The information is helpful. Is there a reason you no longer use GeoBlue?
I have a long term Allianz policy. I have made a dozen claims, all paid without comment. Correction, my Healthcare provider has made a dozen claims. I'm happy with them. That and MedJet, as of yet untested.
I don't remember seeing any complaints about GeoBlue here, but I'm not sure many of the people who've reported having GeoBlue policies have had to use them.
I will say that I had a Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy almost every year of my working life, and I found BC/BS relatively easy to work with. When I needed medical treatment in Slovenia back in 2015, I brought the documentation home with me quite some time later, submitted it (without getting an official translation), and was reimbursed for almost the full amount (over 200 euros, as I recall) without any quibbling.
I chose a 'GeoBlue Trekker Choice' annual policy based upon a friend's recommendation as she was required to carry it for a long-distance biking tour in Italy, so I'm guessing they pay out relatively easily. I've had it 4 years & yes the on-line dashboard & tools are easy to use. They have a toll free number for calling from overseas in the event you need help accessing medical care, luckily I haven't needed to use it.
Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I found GeoBlue reviews on insuremytrip. Typical, almost everyone hadn’t filed a claim. Of the two who did, they didn’t understand their policy, as in there is a deductible.
