Reputable airlines from Rome to Prague

We are planning a trip to Europe and will start in Rome. We will head to Prague and are having difficulty finding an inexpensive, reputable airline to travel from Rome to Prague. We found British Airways but the cost for one person is approx. $ 200-300. Any suggestions? This is our first Europe trip and if it does not run smoothly, my husband will never go anywhere with me again!

Katie, You could have a look at either SmartWings or WizzAir as I believe both offer flights on that route. I've never flown with either one, so can't comment on whether they're "reputable". Vueling is another choice, but they have a stop in Barcelona so are more expensive. There are a few things to keep in mind. To begin with, Euro airlines often use a "sliding scale", so the prices will increase as the flight fills. Many don't offer seat selection and those that do charge for it. Most have very restrictive luggage limits, so be sure to PACK LIGHT or you'll pay a hefty overweight luggage charge. In most cases, tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable once booked. Be sure to read their Terms & Conditions and luggage limits carefully! Also, most Euro airlines only allow one carry-on item. That doesn't mean one plus a "personal item" such as a Purse or Laptop case, it means one only of the approved size and weight (they'll likely check that). As this is your first trip to Europe, I would highly recommend that you both pre-read Europe Through The Back Door prior to your trip. Happy travels!

Smart Wings has pricing of 54 Euro one way. I've used this airline a number of times traveling all over Europe with no issues. BTW, tell your husband to chill out. No matter where you go in the world there is a chance of a hiccup traveling. It is good to try to think of those times as an opportunity not a setback. Truthfully, I've had more things go off course when traveling all over here in the USA than in Europe. Stuff happens, just go with it and move on.

Wizz Air's low prices can vary quite a bit depending on the day of the week you fly. For instance, on Tuesday April 12 they have a non-stop flight Rome to Prague for a total price of 22.49 euros. How do you beat a fare like that? According to their website, all their planes are Airbus A-320's, with an average age of less than 3 years. They are a very young airline; their first flight was in 2004.

We flew with Wizz Air from Brussels to Budapest last year, and I would definitely recommend them. The flight quality was pretty much identical to any American airline, other than lack of seat assignments and no free beverages. The seats were actually nice, comfy leather seats that were nicer than what we had for our transatlantic flight. And for under 20 Euros each (booking, credit card fees included), you really can't beat that. Just be sure you pay close attention when you book - they will try to sell you a lot of extras (i.e. airport shuttle, hotel, checking luggage). Also, they will offer to let you pay in dollars when you book online - I wouldn't do it, because their exchange rate is usually not as good. Also, make sure that your carry-on luggage fits their size/weight limits. If you know it does not, then pay the luggage check fee when you book, as it will be more expensive if you try to carry on and they don't let you.
