Replace Wheels on RS Rolling Carryon

My airline apparently dropped my RS rolling carry-on on one corner and broke the wheel. I had to remove what was left of the outer robber cover and now have two different thicknesses on the bag. I love the bag and can't figure out how to replace the damaged wheel, or both of them. Anyone have experience in replacing wheels? Thanks.

Contact the RS office with photos and they will probably either send a new wheel or a new bag.

I would check for a luggage repair shop near you. There are a few posts here about replacing wheels on carry-ons, too - just search for "replace wheel" and they should pop up.

From what other posts have said, the RS office does not offer to replace the wheels or bag. You will need to take care of it on your own.

RS may be able to offer some ideas, but not a replacement bag as suggested by 'Steph'

Not an RS bag, but I got a bag wheel on Amazon. Did both sides for good measure.

If RS cannot supply an exact match wheel, you may have to get two to balance the bag so it rolls smoothly. Make sure you match the size.

To change the wheel, have you looked inside the zipped lining to see how the wheel is attached to the bag. Many newer bags make it easy to change a wheel. Some don't.

I have a Samsonite and recently had to change a wheel. The company sent me one for free and it took less than five minutes.

I just traveled so much that my wheels wore out. RS does not sell the wheels or replace them with wear. My husband, the handy man, took the wheels off and measured them. We got a used bag at Goodwill (on a half price day) with the same size wheels and installed them. Threw away the old bag. Once you know the wheel size a pair could be ordered. I don’t know if having a luggage shop replace the wheels is cost effective. The newer RS bags are a little smaller to be sized correctly with the wheels as part of the measurements. Buy one when it goes on sale.

I've just recently had the broken rubbers replaced on the wheels on an old Karrimore bag in London (if you're in London I'll share the name) - very well, quite inexpensive (£35), a couple of days because I wasn't in any hurry.

I expect that similar could be found many places.

If you decide to replace the wheels yourself, check youtube for some DIY videos. I just did a quick search and there are many videos on this subject.

Many years ago Continental managed to tear the wheels off my brand new suitcase.
I found a shoe repair shop that also repaired luggage. So don't limit your search to "luggage repair". Shoe repair shops might also be able to help you.

The way the rolling wheels stick out, it is amazing they are not damaged more often. I am always thankful my rolling bag still works when i retrieve it. These are some good ideas about wheel replacement and repair. Thanks., Continental-wow! That was many many years ago before United took them over. I found them to be much better than United. Sorry they are gone.

Airlines used to be quite understanding about luggage repairs, I had to do it several times on their dime. Now they will reject everything and unfortunately the cost of repairs is so high it's usually simpler to just buy a new bag since they are so cheap.

We contacted Rick Steves to have our wheels replaced but they would not help us as we had bought their bag at a retail store not directly from RS. We were very very disappointed by this. We expected to pay of course.
