Has anyone had any experience with Halcyon Leisure? We are ready to book a gite with them and would like to hear from anyone who has worked with them.

No, i am not. Southwest France --- as in the Pyranees or Dordogne? In these regions or Languedoc, i have generally just surfed the web until i found what i was looking for and i have always found a nice place.
The market is pretty loose in the sense that places that are controlled by foreign owners (UK, US, DE, etc) tend to go for more than an equiavlent place being rented out by a local.
If you've done your internet homework for the region to which you are travelling, then you should know more than we do.
If you are not poor (just stingy), factor other things than price into your choice set.
