Today, I received a notice from AMEX that they had paid off a damage claim made by our rental car company in Croatia. We had bought their Premium Rental Car Protection ($15.95 for up to 42 days). We initiated the claim process on Oct.1. Kudos to them for handling this matter so quickly and efficiently. If you have an AMEX card, this is surely the best way to go on insurance. Unfortunately, some European rentals are excluded, Italian ones among them.

AmEx is the way to go.
Everybody excludes the nations starting with 'I'.

Our CIBC Aerogold Visa did pay for the damage we caused to our rental car in Italy. No deductible charged.

Glad to hear it went smoothly for you. I always use Amex Premium but haven't had to make a claim.
