Has anyone renewed NEXUS within the last year or so? We're trying to do so via the online portal and it's about as Byzantine a process as possible.
Not NEXUS, but I renewed my spouse's Global Entry a couple weeks ago (and renewed my own about a year ago). What's the issue you are encountering?
If has been a few years since you last interacted with them, you may have noticed they completely switched their access system (I assume this change was common to all the so-called "trusted traveler" programs, TSA Precheck, Global Entry, NEXUS and whatever else they have that I've forgotten).
In my case, the biggest barrier was setting up access to the new system (which I believe is part of the overall secure online access to ALL US federal government agencies). Once I realized my old login was useless, and I followed their instructions to set up a new account for the US Department of Homeland Security, the rest was fairly straightforward.
Thanks, David. We just got over the new log in procedure (Escher test no.1 completed). They now want additional documentation to prove citizenship - your birth certificate. Passport is no longer sufficient. Sigh. And the US enrollment centers are closed. DH just raced off to the bank to see if he can get the birth certificates out of the safe deposit box before they close for the weekend.

WHAAAAAT?!
With all due respect, that sounds completely insane. Are you 100% sure about that?
A US passport -- issued by the State Department, fer cryin' outloud -- is accepted as a secure, verified proof of citizenship everywhere. I would be astonished if that was deemed inadequate for NEXUS.
This sounds to me like there's got to be some miscommunication, a misunderstanding, a mistake, or some other complicating factor (eg you're on the TSA No-Fly list or something). Are you absolutely sure you're reading the instructions correctly? Insisting on a birth certificate would make it impossible for an awful lot of people to get through the process...
The wording I found for 'needed documents' was: photo ID ( e.g. driver license) AND birth certificate
OR
US Passport
This assumes one is a US citizen
I just renewed Nexus this month. I saw no new documentation requirements. I was approved in less than two weeks.
Something's screwy here. You need to provide your birth certificate to prove your citizenship to get a passport. (if you were born in the US; if you weren't it's another process entirely).
So......
The screwy thing is my DH. He saw that information from your birth certificate was wanted (place of birth, date, etc.). Thought he needed his birth certificate to complete that information and that he needed to upload a copy of it. So off to the races he went and into panic mode we both go. But, as everyone has noted, no upload is required. Most of us know when and where we were born. And now I'm wondering if it's too early for a drink. I probably should delete this thread but I won't so that anyone else whose spouse/SO/partner sends them spiraling off can climb down from the ceiling.
It's never too early for that drink. (Just skip the Russian vodka...)
I renewed mine online with no trouble. Unfortunately my spouse was randomly selected to an interview and with the Canada US border closings has been unable to schedule one. They say her card remains valid despite a 2021 expiry date. Haven’t been able to test that yet.
