Unfortunately that is not going to help with the current backlog. The wait time for processing is now 10-13 weeks, according to the agency.
I applied to renew mine by mail in April, and paid the extra $60 for expedited processing. I recipeived my new one 6 weeks later, which was a great relief!

I sent my renewal in June 20 and it is in the system. There is a fun website called passportwaitingtime.com (not connected with the State Dept) that has the current wait for a normal adult renewal at 59 calendar days. Expedited is only 8 days faster based on their data.
