Speaking of Apple, any advice on converters/adapters/chargers for iPhone and iPod?
oh my god, that chargepod thing is EXACTLY what we were looking for. between us, my husband and i have two iPhones, two e-readers, a digital camera and a netbook. now my new (possibly stupid) question is--can you charge netbooks and digital cameras with USB cables? i realize that's 'step 1', but is it possible?
I have a similar charger to the Kensington USB charger that is dual voltage plus allows you to change the prongs to different plug outlets. Very handy and it's got 4 USB ports for charging.
I wish the world's electronic manufacturers would decide on ONE type of charging system (USB, MiniUSB) for all portable electronics. I've noticed more things are moving that way but camera chargers and Apple have not gotten on board with it yet.
With the Chargepod, you can charge digital cameras but you can't charge a netbook.
However, the Chargepod 2 can charge netbooks. It's just really expensive.
I own a Chargepod and use it at home and on the road.
ok. it is still totally worth it for the two ipods, the two ereaders, and the digital camera--especially the digital camera! thanks for the great link!
My best technique for reducing the number of chargers you carry is to reduce the amount of electronics you carry.
I'm lucky because virtually all of my electronics use an identical charger - I still don't pack most of them because I can live without them easily. Tiny camera and tiny cellphone are the only items I pack regularly for international travel.
Thanks for the reminder! My camera and my iPod will both charge with a USB-to-AC adapter, and of the two that I have (one for iPod, one for camera), both will handle up to 240 volts and only need the prong adaptor! I should be able to get away with three chargers, and the third is only for emergencies (my US cell phone that I don't plan on using abroad).
I use an iGo charger at home for my car because when I buy a new device I can just buy a new tip for it for $10.
They also make various travel wall chargers that work on the same system of device-specific tips, and the adapters are dual voltage. Some of them will charge laptops as well, and you can get what you need for your model. Some kits include car chargers too, if you will be driving.
You can buy iGo charger sets and tips from RadioShack.
I also have a two-port USB charger with a built-in battery that can recharge devices without being plugged in. It's called the Encore MusicPower. You can buy it from Amazon for $12.50--a bargain! I bought mine a year and a half ago for $20. It works very well. The battery recharges while plugged in and charging other devices, and then you can recharge on the go. It's about 4 x 2 x 1 inches and weighs 5 oz.

On reducing by reducing devices, I'm sure people have good reasons for taking what they take, as I do. I don't carry my laptop or a netbook or a large camera, but I know people have good reasons for taking these, so I would never suggest they not take them. At least we can try to reduce the number of heavy chargers we take, though.
