Recommendations for car rental within Germany please?

I'd love to hear about the positive and negative experiences and perhaps determine which company would be best for me. Your experiences would not necessarily have to be in Germany, as I'm more interested in the companies' policies and responsiveness. I've already realized that 24 hour pickups and dropoffs are often difficult to find!

Thanks!

Janet,

For car rental in Germany, I'd suggest contacting Gemut.com as they'll be able to steer you in the right direction (pun intended).

We've used gemut.com three times, and are using them a for fourth time this coming summer. Excellent price and service.

I use AutoEurope for my travels in Europe. I'll also compare their rates to my corporate Hertz Gold Card--and take the cheapest rates.
AutoEurope is a big consolidator, and most often uses large rental companies' fleets. It's not too hard to figure out online where the best pickup and return locations are.

Most European rental offices have key boxes for after hour dropoff. Anytime you rent, you want to take a bunch of pictures of the car when picked up and when dropped off to document any damages and note any damages. You don't want any credit card chargeback surprises 6 months after returning home.

We've also used www.gemut.com (Andy Bestor) for our last 4 trips to Germany and Austria. Customer service is excellent and quick. We had a "minor" snafu due to paying in full up front (which is normal) and our flight to Munich being delayed nearly 5 hours, meaning that the way or return of the car worked out, we were entitled to a refund of 1 day. One simple email to Andy Bestor, which took me all of 2 minutes to write, was all it took on my part. Can't beat it.

Great information! I have an inquiry to Gamut now and am waiting for a reply. I'm also checking other sites mentioned.

Thank you to all!
