Recommendations

My husband and I just came back from various places in Italy and it was one of most memorable trips we have done and alot of that has to do with all the recommendations, suggestions and tips from this forum. THANK YOU to all

We are heading to Barcelona area end of May, 2027, to attend a very dear friend from there, their daughter's wedding. We figured while we are there, why not explore more a place we havent been for 4 or 5 days. Our thoughts were possibly Marrakash, or Malta maybe. Still in the planning phase and would love some feedback and some suggestions. I am somewhat hesitant about Marrakash because of the big cultural differences than home and places we have been...but it intrigues me.

Thank you in advance

Morocco is one of those places that, should I ever develop an interest in it, I would consider taking an organized tour. I checked Adventures with Sarah, and they have a Morocco tour in May 2027, but it's 10 days, so longer than you're looking for.

Morocco is OK to visit, but best done with a tour.
Have you been to Egypt? If you love history, Egypt is loaded with history. It is safe to visit, still take a tour. It is not expensive and you can do a Nile cruise in addition to visit the Pyramids and museums around Cairo cheaper than going to Europe.

For other places, there are many. Northern Europe is more expensive than Southern Europe and Western Europe more expensive than Eastern Europe.

TripAdvisor.com is a great research source to check out what there is to see in a city. Check, Things To Do.
Also, Gate 1 Travel has excellent tours for great prices.

If you are going to Barcelona, there is a lot more to see in Spain. Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Cordoba, Seville, Granada, Malaga, the Basque Country and more.

Marrakech will be toastier in May than when we went in January 2019, but if you’re prepared, and that’s when you’ll be in a country next door, it’ll be an interesting and wonderful visit. We had more overall time than 4-5 days, and also included Fes and a desert safari.

A Riad is a traditional, hospitable Moroccan place to stay. We stayed at the Dar Kawa riad, an upgraded B&B in the Marrakech medina (old town), annd they also arranged daily private tours for us to sights around the city. Website: https://www.darkawa.net/

A guide showed up at our door each morning, with transportation, which included a tuk-tuk one day. They made it comfortable to be a little out of our comfort zone. We also took a cooking class that included going to the market to acquire ingredients in the morning, then learning to prepare a feast for lunch. There’s at least one cafe in town that serves camel meat, although we didn’t indulge.
