Hi! I'm going to be traveling to Provence in a month and I'm looking for a reasonable hotel for one night in Avignon close to the train station. The Holiday Inn express has no vacancy. I arrive via train at 9:40 at night and I am checking out that next morning. So all I really need is a placed to rest until my pick up the next morning at 8am. Maybe I should just stay in the train station??? Any helpful info will be appreciated. I've never been to this area of France.

There are two Avignon train stations. The TGV station is outside town and a 10-15 min bus ride to Avignon. The other station is the older city center station and is located just outside the city wall. There are several inexpensive hotels within 5-10 min walk from the city train station. I have stayed at the Hotel du Parc. It's in Rick's France books.
Choose the TGV station. It's beautiful and has a giant pond with tiny frogs :)
Have fun at the Papal Palace! Provence is a delightful part of France. I hope you enjoy your time there as much as I did.
