All,
I am planning a 2-week trip to Spain in September. I am particularly interested in Southern Spain, but I am having a hard time determining where to stay and for how long. We definitely want to see Seville, Granada, and Cordoba. Does anyone have some suggestions? How many nights in each city? Are there day trips to take from each town? Does anyone have hotel recommendations?
Amy - we just got back from a short trip Spain and had a fabulous time. Here was our itinerary:
Delta RT Atlanta to Madrid
2 nights Segovia
3 nights Sevilla
2 nights Granada
3 nights Madrid
We loved Segovia, saw El Escorial on the way from Madrid, perfect town to get over jet lag, small but pretty, great audio tour of the Alcazar. We stayed right on Plaza Mayor at Hotel Infanta Isabel - very nice.
Sevilla was great, took us all day to get there, so though we had 3 nights we only had 2 full days for sighseeing. SO much to see and do, stayed in Santa Cruz Barrio at the Hotel Amadeus - nice but I'd be willing to try something else next time.
Granada - stoped in Ronda for lunch and walk on the way, arriving in time for dinner in Granada. Our FAVORITE hotel was the Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol - a WONDERFUL upscale bed & breakfast, a short walk from the Alhambra. Manuel was the perfect host, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. I had gotten my tickets online for the next day to visit the Alhambra and it was as wonderful as you might imagine.
Madrid - Liked this city SO much more than we though we would! Stayed at the Hotel Catalonia de Cortes, near the Prado and I would definitely stay there again. The museums, the food, the wine - very lively, very fun city. I would love to go back.
We had seen Barcelona on a prior trip so didn't go there. Wish we had had time to go to Morocco but I would want a full 5-7 days there I think. You could skip Segovia and add Morocco if that interests you. We have put a return trip to Northern Spain also on our list of places to go.
Thanks so much for your comment! This helps a lot!
