I am planning on bringing a couple of devices to Italy so I can work a couple of hours a day from the road including a Asus Netbook and an iPad. I know I can buy converters for these devices, but, I wonder if it would be worth my while to buy native chargers while I am there? So, go to Rome, head to the Apple store, buy a charger. Thoughts?
Depending on the devices you may not need a charger, just an adapter. I bought the Apple world traveler kit (or maybe it was European Traveler) and it gave me adapters that slip on to my MacBook Pro power cord. It sure made it easier. So I would start with your local Apple Store first. Pam
All you should need is adapter plugs not chargers. My iPad charger worked fine in Italy. Just need the adapter plug in order to get some juice. You know round plug things instead of prongs. Take two. Have no clue about the Asus Netbook but it should say on the back and or on the charger 100-240 volts. Almost every good electronic device today is OK for here or Europe. Think about all those business travelers.... That said, check with the local Apple store for peace of mind.
Thanks all. That is very helpful.
Jason, As the others have said, you should only require inexpensive Plug Adapters to use both those devices in Italy. However, it would be a really good idea to verify the Input Voltage ratings on the Chargers of both devices - if these state 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz., the devices are designed for use in Europe with only a Plug Adapter. As someone else mentioned, it would also be a good idea to pack at least two Plug Adapters along, in case one is "misplaced" or whatever. Happy travels!
