Rashguards swim/sun-protection shirts, if you need one

Rashguard shirts have been advised on a couple of recent posts. They provide great sun protection on your beach/pool/snorkel/swim/boating vacations, and they are also great to wear with a pair of shorts or slacks when touring casually.

LandsEnd has a ONE-DAY sale today (50% off with FREE 2-day shipping) on all swim-related items TODAY only.....this includes rashguard shirts, swim suits, cover-ups, water shoes, etc.

The promo code is SWIM.

This is a really good deal, because normally someone has to spend $50 to get free shipping.

I just purchased a spare rashguard shirt myself, just because the price was so good. I'll wear it with shorts, since unfortunately I have no vacations planned the rest of this year.

That you Maggie for letting us know. I purchased a lovely floral one that zips, like a jacket, with 3 1/4 sleeves. I wear it walking to the beach, sitting on the beach and swimming. I can use it as a jacket if I need to. Will definitely look to get another as I paid full price for mine.

Thanks! I ordered trunks and rashguard shirts for my twin grandsons, and a new swimsuit for me.

I've got one of these shirts. They do help keep the sun off you. But they're not always ideal. IME they do not "breathe" - at all. I made the mistake of wearing one of these while doing some light hiking in Japan last summer. It was a fairly hot day, but not blistering like one would get in the Mediterranean in summer or in the deep tropics. I also had a small day pack on my back. After a short while, I was completely drenched in sweat. The synthetic fabric initially feels cool to the touch, but once you start to heat up, it just absorbs sweat, it doesn't dry/evaporate/wick, it just clings to you, all wet and heavy. I found it quite uncomfortable.

So, personally I think it's great for swimming and actually being in the water (although you may get some puzzled looks while swimming if you're in a place where most people are trying hard to soak up as much radiation as possible, eg anywhere Northern Europeans go to lay in the sun on a beach). But for just walking around on a hot day....no thanks, I'll wear something thinner, lighter, and breathable (linen or light cotton).

YMMV.

David,
Is your shirt one of the LandsEnd brand?

My sister was skeptical, and then she tried on of the LandsEnd ones, and she found she didn't sweat (just like I don't). My husband is extremely (understatement) about synthetic fabrics and will usually not be caught dead in synthetics, but he became a believe in the LandsEnd rashguards, too. He was quite surprised.

So sorry I missed this yesterday! I live in my rash guards and could use replacements. After having several suspicious moles removed & undergoing "freezing" treatments on my face - I don't really care about strange looks from those trying to soak up the sun.

Hopefully next time!

Yeah, agree the Lands End ones are pretty good. I typically hate anything synthetic against my skin in the summer, but I don't ever find I feel sticky or overheated in the Lands End rashgards.

I've got plenty of them already, but thanks for the heads up as I nabbed 2 new bathing suits to wear at the beach this summer.
