Raincoat alterations?

Hi - This is my first post, hope I'm doing it right. :)

I've been looking for a travel raincoat and finally settled on the ExOfficio Rain Logic Trench. The only issue I have with it is that the sleeves are way too long.

This fabric is one of those DWR-treated fabrics, sealed seams, etc. Plus the cuffs are complicated by having two sets of snaps.

I've seen postings that mention having sleeves shortened on such items. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (actually East Bay). Any advice on where I could take such a garment for alteration? Thanks!

I'm sure you could take it to any place that does tailoring. They won't be stymied by the complicated cuffs. In my town in central Illinois, we have numerous alterations places. Surely you could find one nearby where you live.

Hi Jane, welcome to the Forum and congrats on finding a good travel raincoat! I googled "San Francisco East Bay Tailors" and several businesses popped up. Check them out to see if one interests you. Hope you have a great time on your trip!

Or just roll up the sleeves, snaps and all. Europe doesn't send you home for that. And no added holes from alteration needles to let water in.
Or check at your local cleaners to see if they do alterations, or can recommend someone.

Any seamstress or tailor would take care of that for you...I'd lean toward a seamstress.

Not meaning to rain on anyone's parade ( sorry about the pun ) , It would be prudent to check what , if any , manufacturer's warranty applies to this coat , Many products , not only clothing , have warranties which become void if any modification is made to the product . If that's the case , rolling up the sleeves might be your best option . I would call Ex Officio for guidance .

Thank you, everyone, for your input. Great observations and suggestions!

Unfortunately I really need to take a coat...I get cold too easy and the likelihood of rain is high.

I took the coat to a local shop, but was not comfortable with their alteration ideas. I ordered another coat, Eddie Bauer's "Girl on the Go" trench, in a Petite and figured I would go with whichever one seemed best. Tough call! Each has its pros and cons.

I haven't returned either one yet, but the Eddie Bauer looks like the keeper. It fits better and can conveniently accommodate my big iPhone 6+ (unlike the ExOfficio). Wish it had more than one inside pocket; having been the victim of a pickpocket on our previous visit to Paris, I worry... But anyway, unless someone mentions a reason to have second thoughts, the Eddie Bauer it will be. :)

Thanks, I really appreciate your time!
