I'm trying to figure out how to budget for rail transportation for a month long trip to Europe for my husband and I. At this point, we don't have any concrete plans as to exactly where we will be going, so it might be too early to ask. But...should we consider a 21-day multi-country Eurail pass or buy tickets for each individual trip? We don't want to rent a car or take a plane. If anyone has taken such a trip and can shed some light on potential costs, I'd appreciate it.
Thank you!
This thread has a lot of good info regarding Railpass vs PtP. http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/63124/rail-pass-or-p2p.html
With surcharges for rail passes and discounts on advance purchase tickets, the days of a rail pass being an automatic good deal are long gone. You need to a decent idea of your rail travel and then do you homework. In a 30 day trip it would be very unlikely -- or at least it should be -- that you would have 21 days of rail travel.
