For those of you that have taken the Tour, How long is the Tour through the Louvre ?We may want to go again if the tour is short on time or if we decide we wanted to see more. We are staying in Paris for four more days and will be going to Versailles. We are thinking about buying the Museum pass.
Thanks Jim ( leaving in one week, if Volcano cooperates!!!!! Our First Trip to Europe!!!!!!
I took that same tour the first time I went to Europe. I am about to take my 9th RS tour and that is still my favorite one. I wish I could remember how long we had as you asked, but sorry I don't. You could e-mail the RS Travel Desk and tell them you are signed up for that tour and ask them how long the tour allows for that visit. Be sure to make a note at the beginning of each day so that you know which pictures belong to what place. I learned here to take a picture of the guides daily schedule that is posted where ever you are staying. I did not do that when I took that tour and still have not figured out where some of my pictures came from.
Happy travels
When I took the Best of Europe tour, the Louvre tour covered just the highlights and lasted about 2 hours. We received a 3-day Paris museum pass, so I used it to return during free time and explore more. Best of Europe is a great tour. You're going to love it!
When we did BOE, I remember the Louvre being about 90-120 minutes. However, we had the rest of the afternoon to ourselves. I guess it depends on if they do the Orsay before or after the Louvre. BOE hits the Louvre highlights, but if you want to see a lot more, then plan on going back. If it's just a few more things, then perhaps you could fit it in at the same time. Remember it would take weeks to see everything in the Louvre.
Jim,
From my experience with the RS Paris and France tour last year, the time at the Louvre will last two-three hours, and will probably be conducted by a local Guide rather than the Lead Guide. It will probably cover somewhat of a "general overview", and selected parts of the Denon and Sully wings.
As the others have mentioned, you may have a free afternoon following the tour, or possibly a short tour of the Musee d'Orsay or other sites. There are locations in the Louvre where you can have a quick meal before continuing with your next activity. The Louvre is massive, so I doubt that even with two days you'd be able to see all of it.
You may be provided with a two-day Museum Pass as part of your tour, but I'm not sure if that's common with all RS tours, or only selected ones?
Happy travels!
I have only been on one RS tour, the 14 day Family one, but when we toured the Louvre we were given our tickets and told we could stay as long as we liked after the tour( which was about 2.5 hours i think) .. we actually left, had lunch in the food court and went back in.. I love the Louvre and have already been at least 7 or 8 times.. one cannot do it justice in a few visits. I bet your group will have a similar set up ,, if so I urge you to stay longer, I consider the Louvre a jewel,, and ps, you can find some nice uncrowded sections,, just take your time .
