question on plane flights

I am booking a trip that requires getting back to Prague from Venice on a Saturday. There is only one flight, leaving at noon, that would leave us with a 10 hour layover in the airport before coming home to US. This trip is 6 months out. Do airlines routinely (or ever)
add additional flights as time goes on?

Anything can happen. Add a flight or drop one. Three years ago I was booked on a late morning departure from PRG to AMS(?) then Oslo. The late morning was cancelled forcing me to switch to an early morning flight and a long layover.

That said, why would you connect through PRG from VCE back to the States? Air France/Delta connect VCE via CDG, and others connect via major European hubs.

Our flight back to US was set before we decided on cities to see outside Prague. Would love to take a train back to Prague from Venice (the last stop in our trip) but there are no train schedules out yet. So don't know what is best to do at this point.

Trains from Venice to Prague take 13-14 hours and schedules for summer and fall are not likely to change much versus current, spring schedules. I think you should go ahead to book the flight. I assume you're using www.skyscanner.com to find flight options; it looks like noonish is the only direct and cheap flight option earlier in the year, as well.

You might get a flight to Venice straight from Prague, maybe after a day to relax, then work your way back visiting your other cities.

If the flight is not booked. Come home from Venice. I don't understand the need to return to Prague. It doesn't make much sense to return to Prague especially given the flight schedule. And to answer you question. The likelihood of adding a better flight is close to zero.

Since you are stuck with the flight, I tend to agree with Sam in that maybe rework the itinerary so that Prague ends up being your last stop. So, fly into Prague, start heading out to other cities, then end in Prague with a couple of days at the end. I agree that it is highly unlikely that any additional flights will be added to help you out.

Hello dhallathallway. If you purchased the airline tickets for flying from Prague to an airport in the U.S.A., I suggest : try to change your ticket : fly from Venice to the U.S.A. You would pay a fee for changing your flights, but if you travel from Venice to Prague (for the purpose of flying from Prague airport to an airport in the U.S.A.) you would spend money for your transportation from Venice to Prague. And a 10 hour layover at the airport of Prague would not be good.

You need to comeback and clarify your postings so we can understand your exact situation.

Thanks for all the advice. I am flying with my daughter who is in Prague for a softball tournament. Her team bought the roundtrip ticket. I got on the same plane as her to return home. We are doing some sight-seeing on our own time. I did look into changing the ticket, but it's way more expensive than just booking the $60 hop Venice to Prague and unfortunately wasting a whole day at the airport.

Only flight I see into Prague is on Volotea. Prague has no direct flights to the U.S., if that's where you're flying home to.

What I don't understand is the 10 hour layover. If you left at noon, you'd get to Prague around 1:30 p.m. Add 10 hours, and that would mean you're leaving around midnight.

Most flights leaving cities like Prague are 6:00-8:00 a.m., and they're going to other European gateway airports like Vienna, Amsterdam, Paris, etc. Those flight leave around mid day. Sounds as if you may have enough time to get a hotel room.

Flight schedules do change, but I'm not optimistic you will find something significantly better for this route.

I'd check flight schedules from nearby cities (maybe as far away as Bologna or Milan), first, then consider revising your itinerary to put you in the right city before your flight back to Prague.
