Question on best day trips from Florence to a Tuscan town

Hi all,

I would like suggestions for a really good day trip from Florence to a Tuscan town close by. I just have a day to enjoy the Tuscan beauty and would like to go to the best one :) Also, if possible,I would like to bike within the town to enjoy it.

Couple more questions around the above one- Will I have to rent a car to go to get there? Is yes- Do we need an additional license or is US license adequate? Where can I rent a car?

Thanks!!

I would choose Siena. It's a smaller version of Florence. Siena was a rival of Florence during the Renaissance for art, economics, etc. It is also fun to eat at the Piazza. You can take a short train ride there from Florence. Whatever town you choose, it will be wonderful!

Priya,
Take a look at Lucca. It is easy to get there by train or bus and easy to rent bikes.

Siena is easy to get to by bus.

Montalcino and the Abbizia di Sant Antimo

This website is not pretty but has some good pictures.

Great town and you can't beat a picnic with some bread and cheese and Brunello di Montalcino 1995 or 1999/2000 on the grounds of the abbey.
