question about oktoberfest

heading to Europe in late september. Traveling from Italy up to Zurich, to Salzburg, then to Munich. We have to get the TGV from Munich to Paris. Didn't realise that Oktoberfest was on. Is this going to be a problem? Should I re-organise my trip bypassing Munich?

"We have to get the TGV from Munich to Paris." Why that TGV? There are lots of TGV from Germany to Paris, from Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, and Strasbourg (OK, it's not Germany), Mannheim, Frankfurt. All you have to do is get to one of those cities, and there are lots of German trains to those cities each day. For that TGV to Paris, leaving Munich at 6:20, it is possible to buy tickets with seat reservations online from the Bahn (in fact seat reservations are mandatory and come with the online ticket).

I'm confused as to whether or not you were planning on trying to see anything in Munich/stay overnight in Munich. If you're not, as long as you have the (mandatory) seat reservations on the TGV it won't be a problem. Getting a hotel at this point will be considerably more expensive than during another time of year but there are probably still a few rooms to be had. I haven't personally experienced Oktoberfest (going this year!) but I've read that while Munich is of course crowded everything functions really well. The main event as it were is in a special fairground away from the city center.
