Question about customs on connecting flights between countries

By chance does anyone know the answer to this question or perhaps can refer me to some official source that may know----- If traveling (for example) PHL - MAD on AA and then to a connecting flight on another different airline MAD - TNG (Tangier Morocco), does one clear customs both in MAD and then in TNG? Or just clears customs in TNG the final destination? Thank you!

There are questions that need to be answered:

1) Is this all on one ticket or two separate ones?

2) Will you have the boarding pass for the second flight?

3) Will you have checked luggage?

If you are simply connecting flights in Madrid, you have your boarding pass for the second flight and either no checked luggage or it is checked through to Tangiers, you will not clear immigration or customs. All of that will be done in Tangiers.

That is assuming you are traveling on one ticket. If these are separate tickets then you will probably have to clear immigration and customs in Madrid, collect any checked bag, recheck in on the new airline, and then go through security.

Here is the Madrid Airport webpage on connecting flights:
