Q: Eurail Pass and TGV Madrid to Spain

Hello All,

American about to travel Europe and I have 1 question(right now!).

I am thinking of purchasing a 10 day Eurail pass but would like to know IF the trip on the TGV fastest way from Madrid to Paris would be included in using that pass. I am unfamiliar with the in's and out's of using the European train system and I DO know one must make a seat reservation but is that extra on top of the cost of the Eurail pass?

Any advice will be graciously appreciated! Thanks in advance.

The TGV Madrid to Paris is indeed included. You can book that via the Eurail Website.

When is this trip? If it is more than a few weeks out and you intend to pre book all your travel days you may be better off just buying tickets.

Eurail passes cover trains in Spain and France ( as well as other European countries). You do have to additionally buy a seat reservation.
You can get discounted high-speed train tickets If you buy them well in advance.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

Unfortunately my 1 month trip might be dwindled to 2 weeks Spain/Paris so I have not coordinated the train tickets as this is currently on the fly. Most likely I'm going for the Eurail pass so I can site see a few Spanish cities on the AVE and minimize travel time.

I will be traveling mid April still off season so I am hoping book a reservation to Paris last minute will not be a huge issue.

Most likely Ill have 2 weeks prior to my trip to book the Madrid/Paris train tickets. Not a lot of advance planning I know but Ill have to work with it.

Easter is April 20 this year. Schools out the week before or after, so families are vacationing then. Take that into consideration when you make your plans,

That passholder fares are limited is only the case on some TGVs. In Spain it will not be an issue. And you can now use Eurail/Interrail on Iryo as well.

Thanks WegenK and Kim for that information.

As I am new to all this the insight is good for me to retain when booking using the Eurail pass.

If I end up having to pay for a ticket so be it but prefer not to IF possible to avoid additional expenses.
