Purchase Rick Steves books in Europe

We are currently in Switzerland and will be going to France later in our trip but failed to purchase the book on France by Uncle Rick (as my boyfriend and I have come to call him on our trip. "What is there to see in Bern? I don't know, let's see what Uncle Rick says.") Is it possible to buy any of Rick's books in Europe? If so any suggestions on where we can pick one up? We are in Zurich now, headed to Rome and various Italian stops then to France. thanks!

In Paris I would first try WH Smith, Monday-Saturday 10-19:00, at 248 rue de Rivoli, Metro Concorde.

The easiest way might be to buy it through Amazon and have it being send to a hotel address. Shipping might take a week though. Alternatively go to the next big book store and ask them how long it would take them to get it. Use the ISBN-numbers. Here are the ones for the 2008 France book: ISBN-10: 1566918553, ISBN-13: 978-1566918558

Ron from Italy can help with Roma suggestions? These bookstores in Rome are listed as English available bookstores in my 2006 Italy RS books:

Feltrinelli International (Via Vittorio Emanuele Orlando 84)

Almost Corner Bookshop (Via del Moro 45, Trastevere)

Angelo American Bookshop (Via della Vite 102)

Similar to Andreas' suggestion, I too would suggest Amazon but order from Amazon.co.uk instead of Amazon.com. Shipping to Western Europe typically only takes a couple days from the UK...at least in my experience living in England.

I've seen Rick's books more popularly in cities he writes about. I prefer to pick up the lesser known regional guidebooks in English.

Rick's books are available at all the English-language bookshops in Paris. My favorites are Red Wheelbarrow, Village Voice, and Gagliani. Also the used bookshop Berkeley Books frequently has RS titles.

Sorry - been without internet for a month waiting for service to be established in our apartment - FINALLY after 10-12 phone calls WE HAVE INTERNET (T.I.I.)

I have seen Rick's books here in bookstores in Rome. But brace yourself for sticker shock! In La Feltrinelli, the largest bookstore chain, similar to Barnes & Noble, the RS Rome book was on sale. In the States it sells for $17.95. Here it was E20.40 so that makes it about $31.50. So yes, you can get Rick's books here if you want them - but you will pay almost an 80% mark-up. Perhaps better served to go to an internet caffe and look up the info at E1 an hour!

Here are some local book stores that carry or cater to English speakers:

Just a few of La Feltrinelli locations (They are everywhere!):

Galleria Alberto Sordi 33, Piazza Colonna tel 06/69755001

Via V.E. Orlando 84, tel 06/4827878

Largo Argentina, 6 tel 06 6893121 )

Almost Corner Bookstore, Via del Moro 45 (Trastevere)
(06) 583 6942 (Great bakery, Valzani, just down the street from this shop!)

Anglo-American Book Company, Via Della Vite 102, CLOSED for Summer holiday from 7th August to 24th August 2008, (06) 678 3890 (Close to the Spanish Steps)

Open Door Bookshop, Via della Lungaretta 25, (06) 589 6478

Lion Bookshop, Via dei Greci 33/36, (06) 3265 0437 (located near the Spanish Steps)

LIBRERIA PUNCH! Piazza Rosolino
Pilo, 6, Tel. 065806260

MEL BOOKSTORE, Via Nazionale 254, Tel. 064885405

BORRI - Termini Station, some books in English are available at the large bookshop in the atrium, English & Guidebooks on the top floor,

Good Luck!

There used to be a link on this website showing locations where Rick's books could be purchased in Europe. However, I haven't been able to find the link, so don't know if it has been deleted?
