Provence Help! Itinerary ideas.

Can anyone help with last minute itinerary ideas? I'm going to Milan, renting a car, and then going around to Provence before going back to Milan and hopping a train to Venice. I have approx 12 days give or take a day or two depending on how much I'm enjoying myself. I leave Monday (memorial day) start in Barcelona and will be in Milan by 6/3. I've just been so overwhelmed by all of the amazing areas that there are to see in Provence that I am having trouble nailing that area down. Can you help? I am VERY interested in visiting some amazing small towns with stunning sites, being places where I can talk with others sometimes over outside meals, going to a vineyard, going to the beach and also some city life. A bit of a mix. Thoughts? I'm traveling alone. Tks!

Go here http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/france/france_menu.htm for Provence itinerary ideas from Rick. The larger cities in Provence are not especially car-friendly (Avignon and Nimes come to mind) and are more easily reached by train. But a car is best for reaching the Luberon hill towns and other areas not well served by rail. If sleeping in the larger cities and having a rental car, it's probably better to sleep at a place that indicates on their website or by e-mail that they will facilitate your overnight parking.

When we first visited Provence, we were drawn to the Luberon for its perched villages, scenery, architecture, history and food. The area didn't disappoint and it remains our favorite in Provence. As a starting point, I suggest you include at least 3-4 days in the Luberon. The Luberon From Milan, you could go the southern route through Nice or via the southern Alps and Gap. After that, numerous places are within easy reach including Avignon., Arles and the Camargue. Get Michelin Guide Provence to help plan your trip.
