Private Messages

I know this is not the right place to actually ask but I can't find my answer trawling through the website.
I am fairly new to Rick Steve's forums and am certainly enjoying my time here.
I have received several Private Messages and have sent several in reply.
When I go to my profile I can see all the messages I have received but can't see the ones I have sent.
is there anyway of actually seeing these or is there a section of the forums I can go to to ask this sort of question?

As far as I know, no you can't see your sent messages. If someone replies to your message back to you, then you can see what you originally sent them - the whole back and forth shows up. I'll be anxious to see if someone knows of any way.

As far as I know, Nancy's explanation is correct.

I agree, I have found this frustrating too. I would like to see what I wrote, so that I don't repeat myself. This is the way the website is set up. Maybe the RS people will read this and tell their web designer to change this feature.

It would be convenient to see our sent messages. Without them there's a huge gap in the way we process the information and communicate with each other. I am for having sent messages a part of our mail profile.

piling on

It is a fairly important gap, maybe it will get filled soon.

But not before the UK gets a forum of its own.

Hi everyone,
This is something that is on our list of features we'd like to build into the store. Since we built this entire forum from scratch a year and a half ago, there are a few features that come standard with other systems that we just didn't prioritize into the initial (re)build. I'm not sure when we'll get to this, but I think by now most of you know that we are never really done with tweaking things here. Thanks to all of you for your patience in the meantime. We're currently working on a major overhaul to a different section of the website and some of you will probably notice what that is in several weeks.

Thanks very much for all your comments!

First off, I just want to say that this is one of the nicer message board services I've used. It's simple and clean, and I hope that this simplicity is maintained with whatever changes are coming. That said, I have a couple requests :)

  • I agree with the original poster about it being nice to see sent messages, especially in a threaded view.
  • It would be nice to have a view of the "Topics Participated In" that only shows those threads that have new replies since the last time you viewed the discussion.
  • Similar to the previous item, it would also be nice to "Subscribe" to a particular sub-forum so that you easily see new topics/replies for those countries you really want to follow closely.

Those changes would go a long way with making it easier to communicate with other travelers, which is the whole reason of this forum.

Unclegus,
Actually, this forum has been around for 10 or 15 years, but in a different format than now.
The Webmaster's reference is to a significant update that was done a year and a half ago.

thanks for that info. I suppose being in the Uk I had not been aware of Rick Steve's tours and Tv shows until the last few years.(still haven't seen any shows even on the cable channels) I must admit I do enjoy the talk on the forums I participate in ,the travellers seem a much more independent ,travel savvy, and greatly less geographically challenged than many other forums.
I hope I can continue to help where I can on the forums and enjoy the interaction between different people.maybe even meeting some of you at some point.
Just missed meeting up with one regular poster in Prague but we were in the city only a week apart., that would have been nice.

Uncle Gus, you helped me out a lot on Trip Advisor when I went to Edinburgh a few years ago. If you ever come thru Frankfurt, let me know. I always enjoy meeting up with posters from travel forums.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Nigel, Ms. Jo, several people from the Washington DC area and Darcy & Pam from Idaho during our travels. I enjoy meeting other like minded people and this forum helps with that. I hope I didn't forget anyone. It's still early here!
