Are there private, behind the scenes tours available of some of the master gardeners estate gardens or Kuekenhof Gardens, with transportation available from Amsterdam for a one day excursion?
I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but I am curious. What would you expect to see on a "behind the scenes" tour of a garden? Where they keep the mulch?
Dee, if you get onto the website for the Vancouver Sun newspaper you'll see in their gardening section references to their garden reporter/columnist Steve Whysall. He goes to Holland at least once each year and writes articles on the gardens (private and otherwise) he visits. I've no doubt if you contacted Steve through the website that he'll be happy to answer your question and he does have a blog as well.
Why would you pay extra for such tour?
just curious...
This was a good question for me as I am going to Netherlands and am interested in master gardens and behind the scenes. Two responses questioned why would one wish to visit that. We all have different interests. Some in back movie lots, others behind the scenes tours of government and as many others as there are travelers. That's what makes travel such a personal experience and I think why we all travel. The Travelers' Helpline is really a great way to get good ideas from others. This is just my opinion but, I feel that answers to requests should be positive and in helping the person who has asked and not sounding as though they are putting them down.
Try this website - I think it might be what you are looking for. http://www.uhgt.nl
Hope this helps. I love touring gardens.
I did not even remotely wish to put anyone down. I am truly curious what could be "behind the scenes" in a garden. What else is there to see besides the plants? I do understand that everyone has their own interests, and I have as much right as anyone to ask a question. I've just never heard of a "behind the scenes" tour of a garden and wondered what there was to see.
Charles,
I wasn't trying to put the poster down in anyway. I was rather curious because simple I've never heard of behind the scenes garden tours. To me there is not much to see behind the scene of a garden. It might be, but as I said I have no idea what it is.
