Printing confirmations, rail tickets, etc.

How do you get hard copies of rail tickets, booking confirmations, etc. if you purchased online while on the road?

Head for an internet cafe. They usually have nominal charges for printing out what you need. You can also see if your hotel will help you out. If you're staying at a bigger, chain hotel they may have a business center. If you're at a smaller hotel they may just print it out for you as a courtesy.

Never once did I need a hard copy for booking - I just saved all my emails in a separate folder and entered the reservation info to my calender on my phone (doesn't require internet nor cell signal to view). Save a tree and less paper to haul around. If there is a problem the hotel would have internet where you could retrieve the actual confirmation.

If you need to print a rail ticket do what Anita said.

If the options above aren't available, there may be a Western Union where you can log in to your email account and print what you need, or a TI office may be able to do it.

Johnna,

Ive purchased all of my tickets before i leave home.

I will do pickup at the station via ticket machine, ticket office and print at home just to experiment and see how things work.

If i were to do it on the road as you suggest, i would probably do the ticket machines since they seem to be the easiest/fastest/no line way of doing it.

Happy trails.

How does this work? Is there some kind of confirm number that you input in the machine?

Picking up ticketed at the airport usually requires inserting your passport into the reader. I have had difficulty with some machines and the fallback is being able to input the booking code or e-ticket number. This can be essential at airports (eg VCE) that require a piece of paper with your ticketing information just to the ticketing counter.

Buying tickets online and getting the tickets at a train stationticket machine usually requires a confirmation code or codes. My recollection is that the Norwegian NSB required your confirmation/booking number and a mobile number (or self selected fake mobile number). I can't remember if British ticket machines required the purchasing credit card to get the prepaid tickets.

Yes. just like at the airport. sometimes you need to run your credit card thru to wake up the machine.

When I've needed hard copies, I've always found my hotel was able to do it. Usually, they'd give me an email address to send it to and then print it out on their machine. More and more hotels now have computers with printers available to their guests, too.
