We will be in Rome for several weeks and want to have a printer for ticket printing as well as typical tasks. Please share any advice on this from your own experiences. I could buy a small printer and take it with us. Or buy one there (only have to pack it upon return). Or find Internet cafes when I need to print something (inconvenient, though). Could I rent a printer in Rome? Just want to connect it to the laptop via USB cable which I will bring.

I just bring a memory stick and print at a service bureau. If that would work for you... Hotels have always been willing to print for me (assuming you're not looking to print long documents), and they often have a self-service guest-access computer/printer in the lobby. Also, there are lots of internet shops/cafes where you could print. Finally, there are Mailboxes Etc (and similar) shops, which may have printing services.
