We are going to Ireland the end of Feb for 7 or 8 nights and want to do a Castle stay along with B&B's and possibly 2 nights in a Hotel for arrival and departure in Dublin. We are considering not pre booking the B& B's or Castle but are wondering if we would be making a mistake as we don't like to carry a large amount of cash and wonder if we would have trouble using our credit card in the B&B's? We thought we might save a little money doing it this way but have never done this before and aren't quite sure. Can anyone let us know what their experience has been? Thanks
Judy
I've never tried to use a credit card in a B&B, I've always paid cash. But I do recall seeing credit card logos in some places. As for reserving, I never reserved anywhere for either of my late February trips and had no trouble finding a nice place wherever I decided to stop for the night. One small caution, however, is that some B&Bs close over the winter.
If the B&Bs have trouble with your cc, you should be able to walk to an ATM and withdraw cash and use that instead of carrying it all with you.
Hi Judy,
The following may help you:
Traveling Ireland in February you will be able to find lodging without prebooking but I would try to arrange the next location prior to departing the current one. Often, the owners will assist you in this and in this way you will not be disappointed if one is not yet open for the season.
Although B&Bs may accept credit cards, they will much prefer cash and may offer you some small discount or favor in return. Credit cards at Irish B&Bs will not result in savings. It is the other way around.
You are wise to avoid carrying a large amount of cash. Frequent withdrawals from ATMs is the way to go.
