Prague vs Paris

Going to Rome, Florence, Berlin, and Amsterdam in June. We have an extra 2-3 nights and are debating between stopping in Prague between Berlin and Florence or stopping in Paris after Amsterdam. Liking Prague for budget, liking Paris for big sights. Any input on the two cities that might be helpful to make the decision?

Yes, Prague should cost a lot less than Paris. Cheap Czech beer (pivo) is very good and a lot better than cheap french wine. Decent Czech meals and lodging are not budget breakers. You will need to pick up some Czech Kurona (CZK).

You can enjoy Prague sights and experiences with a two or three day time budget. Paris less so.

I don't know. Conventional Wisdom says Prague should be cheaper, but in Paris you will be more "in the culture" and more likely have the opportunity to pay the norm for most things. In Prague, without some real effort, you will be in the heart of the Tourist Zones and you will be paying tourist prices. I'm not saying one is cheaper than the other. I have been to both in the last five years and I don't recall any substantial difference in the costs. But memory isn't perfect. I would spend a little time comparing hotel and flight costs as that's going to be the bulk of your expense.

It depends what is more important to you. Budget or big sights. Practically everything is significantly cheaper in Prague. Paris is much bigger; 2 to 3 nights would be too little for Paris. For Prague it would be just little (without "too").

Tough choice! I loooove Paris and if you have never been there, I think it is a must. However, if you want to just soak in atmosphere and not scurry around seeing big sites, go to Prague and relax a little. Personally, I would choose Prague over Amsterdam and Berlin. Either way, you can't miss.

I agree that Prague, generally speaking, will be cheaper than Paris. Also that three days there would be adequate (a couple more would be better), while you could spend weeks in Paris and not "see it all." Prague is also more on your direct route between Florence and Berlin, while Paris is east of your other destinations.

Don't know how long your total trip is, but you could easily spread those 2-3 days among the four destinations you already have. I'm a huge Paris fan, but I'd save it for another trip with time to do it justice.
