Prague to Rome - Select Pass or Point to Point?

Traveling this June with a family of 4. Two week trip that starts in Prague, then to Salzburg, Venice, and finish in Rome. We have used the Select Pass before, and enjoy the first class perk.

Assume I could buy a select pass and add the required 4th country, even though we would only travel through 3?

I have done a rough estimate, and point to point for these destinations seem a little cheaper than Select Pass. Any transportation suggestions for those that have traveled through this part of Europe?

Thanks,

Scott

Prague to Salzburg = 25 Euro
Salzburg to Venice = 39 Euro
Venice to Rome = 19 Euro
Total = 83 Euro per person, which is about $94

Looking at the Rail Europe website, a Select Pass for 4 countries (I chose CR, Austria, Italy and Germany) comes to $472 per person.

This doesn't sound a little cheaper, but a lot cheaper to me.

I would suggest going from Prague to Salzburg by one of the mini-van companies servicing the region. For 4 people, they're really economical and you get your own tourguide included. He'll give you a quick 3 hour tour of Cesky Krumlov in route.

From Salzburg, you can take the train down to Innsbruck, through the Brenner Pass and down to Venice. From Venice to Rome is a very easy trip on a fast train--reservations required. These would be done with point to point tickets.

Emily gives your the advance discount fares that you can secure if you're ready to lock in dates and times about 3 months ahead, and 1st class offers similar discounts. Even full fare, 1st class tickets are not likely to cost more than $380 to buy as you go. Without more travel planned, you don't need a pass.
