Prague or Vienna or Budapest?

I love the good discussions on the Forum. So many excellent points of view. I always learn something new. So, I will stir the mud with another.

Prague, Vienna or Budapest. They are all amazing destinations, but I suspect each will attract a different interest. So, objectively (rare from me):

For the younger (20 to 30) tourists I would order them; Prague, Budapest, Vienna.
For the older tourist (45+) I would order them; Vienna, Budapest, Prague.

For the arts: Vienna, Budapest, Prague.
For food and wine: Budapest, Vienna, Prague
For good beer: Prague (nothing else comes close)
For a long holiday: Budapest, Vienna, Prague
For a long weekend break: Prague
For living culture that you can interact with: Budapest, Vienna/Prague (tie)
For museums: Vienna, Budapest, Prague
For day trips and over nights out of town: Prague/Vienna (tie), Budapest
For the architecture: it’s a three way tie depending on a lot of factors.
For uniqueness: Budapest, Prague, Vienna
How long each? Prague 2-4 full days, Vienna 3-5 full days, Budapest 3-6 full days
As a stepping off point to see other countries: Prague, Vienna/Budapest (a tie depending on your gravel style.
Vienna has shorter train trips, but Budapest has better discount airlines).
The answer is seeing all three.

Your ideas?

I have been to all three cities. All three are great.

One thing about going to Budapest and Hungary is that its culture is different from the rest of Europe. If you are looking for something different, consider Budapest. Prague and Vienna are more like what you find in Germany.

For uniqueness: Budapest, Prague, Vienna Vienna, Prague, Budapest Budapest is kind of dowdie and has that post-Soviet feel

Vienna has shorter train trips, but Budapest has better discount airlines). Not really a serious issue. Vienna has great train service and a good airport. Budapest is not as easy to get around and has a mediocre airport.

I have spent literally months in Budapest, many weeks in Vienna. I rate these places Vienna first, Prague second and Budapest third. I do recommend all three to travelers. Budapest seems to appeal to folks who have only been to Europe a few times. Vienna is a far more complex experience to fully appreciate.

Well, discussion is good but that is a lot of thinking - and, even after thinking, my answers are still all completely subjective.

My list: Budapest, Prague, Vienna. I have been to all of them 3 times. I will go back to Budapest, I would be happy to go back to Prague, and (not that I dislike it) I am perfectly content if I don’t end up in Vienna again.

Since I haven't yet visited I'll go to Vienna! Prague to me was more picturesque and Budapest was more energetic; although I visited the former 20 years ago and the latter this past March. Can't go wrong with either choice!
