Has anybody ever stayed at Guesthouse Lida ?
Kid, I stayed there in 2002, we thought we were staying in the old part but stayed in the new part which was lovely. Nice room (but the sun rises early in June!) and big bathroom, great breakfast and the hosts are great and very helpful. It's about 3-4 blocks, slightly uphill, to the metro station, very doable tho. I would definitely stay there again!
I agree with Elaine - we really liked Guest House Lida and would definitely stay there again. The owners are very helpful with great info about the city. The location is away from the city center but there is a metro stop nearby. It's a bit of a walk to the Charles Bridge, for example but it's doable -- we did it. The restaurants in the neighborhood are good and less expensive than many located in the city center. For us, that was a plus.
Kid, I have stayed there about three times now.
Jan and Juri are great guys. Very helpful with planning your visit! They will also, I believe, arrange an airport pickup for you at a reasonable price. The rooms are clean and cozy, and the breakfasts are quite good! (much like you would find in other parts of the continent) The Guesthouse is in a residential area outside of the city center, which I think is great. Subway a short walk away, (as is the tram if I recall) and there are several good restaurants within a block or two, which are a better value than the center. While historic central Prague is breathtaking, staying in a completely different part of the city provides more complete picture. I did a day trip to Cesky Krumlov that Jan arranged, and I believe the van picked me up at the guesthouse. I did stay at the Hotel Central (as the name implies, in the center), but was not impressed with either the rooms or the service.
If you do a search on this site you will see it's one of the most popular places to stay for Ricknick's in Prague.
I have stayed there every year (sometimes twice a year) over the last 11 years for a night or two when nightlife plans make more convenient than staying at inlaws in the outskirts of Prague or just needing to take a "breather" from the total immersion of Czech at the inlaws. The good quality has remained the same even as this place became more popular. Book way in advance if you plan to stay at Lida as their rooms fill up fast.
I will add my vote for Lida. Stayed there 3 nights in 2007. The owners are top notch - ready to help with any and all things to make your stay enjoyable. They will sell you multi-day transit passes for face value. They have an honor bar in the lobby area where they have a ion of wines and other drinks and you just write down your room number and what you took on a ledger and settle up when you check out. We arranged for Jan to meet our train from Budapest and he was there when the train pulled in. They will make arrangements for purchase of tickets to concerts and things like that. It is a very nice, family-run guesthouse.
