Prague and Dresden Itinerary Help?

Would love suggestions of things to do "off the beaten path"! Or things that you would rank "must see"-- we leave in one week :)

Day 1, arrive in the am- Old Town Square- go out music/show, etc?

Day 2- Charles Bridge -- Little Quarter and Loretta Chruch

Afternoon- Castle (after 12:30) and Cathedral..walk around Castle Quarter

Day 3- Jewish Quarter, new town walking tour (Mucha Museum) (museum of communism)

Day 4-Chesky Krumlov

Day 5- Free day for things we missed!

Day 6- Train to Dresden (arrive early morning)- Tour Dresden, Fraukenkirch, Green Vault-- Other suggestions?

Day 7- Pick up rental car, drive to German Countryside to meet up with friends.

In Dresden, I'd also recommend a boat tour, as well as seeing the museums and grounds of the Zwinger. You may also want to check out what the Alt Markt, as it has some interesting crafts and souvenirs from the local area, plus food, beer, and usually a band. Have fun!

Ditto the recommendations to shave a day off of Prague and add it to Dresden. You can also take a day trip from Dresden on their S-Bahn line down to Saxon Switzerland.

Thanks for the feedback! I just checked the green vault site and the tickets seem to be sold out...anyone know if you can get tickets same day? Has anyone been to the historic green vault? is it worth it?

Not counting the day you arrive you have just three days for Prague. I would not shave one day off Prague to add it to Dresden. You would end up with two days for Prague and two days for Dresden. If I couldn't add up one day to Dresden otherwise I would probably leave it 3:1. In Prague you can see, besides other things that are in Rick Steves book, Krizik Fountain. For more information and program you can google it.

We drove from Dresden to Gorlitz, which RS has in his book. There were no other Americans we saw, limited tourists and it is an amazing town!! We walked across the pedestrian bridge into Poland for a drink and had a fabulous, inexpensive hotel! It was a fabulous "find". It is about 2 hrs from Dresden and there is another phenomenal town along the way, Bautzen, where there are no tourists but lots of history and culture.

To Prague I would add to the must-sees: Vysehrad Castle, Petrin Park (it's beautiful now!), Letna park+ outdoor pub, and Zizkov TV tower if there's time.
I agree that Gorlitz is great, but so is the old town in Dresden!

Try and time your visit to the castle to catch the changing of the guard. It is quite impressive and, in my view, rivals Buckingham Palace in its pageantry and music. If you have time, the "Fred & Ginger Dancing Building" is a somewhat unique sight.
