I'm going on my first Europe trip next month and want to be able to post pictures (either on my blog or just send by email) for my friends and family to see while I'm traveling. I have a new Kodak Easyshare digital camera, and in order to send/post the pictures I need to hook it up to a computer by USB. will this be possible in internet cafes? any other helpful photography / internet tips are welcome as well! thanks!!
Probably would be easier to carry a laptop. With the advent of free WIFI, internet cafes are becoming less frequent. Still around but sometimes you have to hunt for them. Second, internet cafes are very reluctant to allow any upload since your unloads might contain a virus.
Rachelle, Could you clarify your meaning on "need to hook it up to a customer"??? I'm not familiar with the Kodak Cameras, but the easiest method I've found for uploading photos to a Blog or photo website is to use a Netbook. They're quite inexpensive, and most have a built-in SD Card Reader. They're a versatile travel accessory, as they can also be used for E-mail, checking rail schedules, storing travel files, etc. As Frank mentioned, Internet Cafes are becoming somewhat less common these days. Many Hotels and Hostels now provide Wi-Fi, some free with the cost of the room and some charge a small fee. Happy travels!
Yep, when I've "liveblogged" my travels I've done so with my husband's netbook. Just pop the SD card from the camera, throw it into the netbook, and voila! Netbooks are really thin, light, and cheap these days. Or if you have a wireless-enabled device that is also a camera (iTouch, smartphone) and you're satisfied with the quality of those pictures, you can do that anywhere you have internet access, but be aware you won't be able to use a U.S. smartphone to make calls overseas and you probably don't want to use your data connection (3g or whatever) as it will be very expensive. But the internet capability should be fine - my mom used her iTouch here in this way without a problem.
Reading between the lines, I assume she meant hooking up to a computer.
haha yes, thank you, i totally meant to say computer, and i've changed it. i do have an iPod touch and will probably just use that since i can send pictures using wifi. i am a solo female traveler and really just want to stay connected to my loved ones back home and let them know that i'm alive and well. (my mom is really worried about my safety.) then i'll just show them the good pictures from my camera when i get back home!
