Just a reminder that you should avoid posting e-mail addresses on the board. Spamming bots troll thru these types of discussion boards looking for e-mail addresses, and scoop them up for spammers. One way to fool them is to write out an e-mail address with the word "at" instead of the ampersand "@", and the word "dot" instead of the....well....dot, as in dot com. This formula should fool most spambots, and the bad guys shouldn't be able to harvest them. Otherwise, look out for lots of chances to help a poor Nigerian widow get access to millions of dollars!
Thanks for the important reminder Norm!
Norm,
That's a great reminder, and probably not something most people (including me) would think of. Hopefully they won't re-write the code for the Spam-bots to look for the "at" word?
Thanks for posting!
On a related topic, I've received one or two personal emails, obstensibly from people on this website seeking further information. My address is not posted anywhere, so how did they send me the message?
Tom, did you ever post to the Graffiti Wall? Many people leave their email addresses there and not realize it.
Just confirming what Frank II said above. If you have ever posted on the Graffiti Wall (GW, not the Helpline) and chosen to input your e-mail address so that people on the GW can reply to you (it's a choice you're given when you post on the GW), and you input your e-mail address under the assumption that your e-mail address would not be out there for others to see--well, that was an incorrect assumption. When you choose to leave your e-mail address on the GW, it does not work like the Helpline Private Message option. Here on the Helpline, your e-mail address is not divulged when someone clicks Private Message. But it's different on the GW.
Gees Norm, just a few of weeks ago I won second place in the Amsterdam Lotto - 950,000 Euros. Poor sport!
Ah, that would do it then. Guess I'll limit my comments to only the Helpline from here on.
Tom: You can post things on the Graffiti Wall without entering your e-mail address in the box (it's not required).
