Post Rhine River travel from Amsterdam

We are seniors traveling in Europe for the first time.We are doing a Rhine River cruise finishing in Amsterdam and have a week to travel before we fly out of somewhere to Dublin.Any ideas ? We would prefer to use trains.I was thinking maybe Maastricht for a couple of days and Bruge. Not sure which first and where to fly out of. Open to other ideas. Thanks

You could see quite a lot of Belgium and the Netherlands in a week.
Day 1 - Train to Antwerp - 3nts
Day 2 - Ghent & Bruges
Day 3 - Brussels
Day 4 - Train to Amsterdam - 4nts
Day 5 - Amsterdam sights
Day 6 - The Hague
Day 7 - Het Loo https://www.paleishetloo.nl
Day 8 - Fly to Dublin

Or, get the Thallys fast train to Paris - it's always easy to fill a week in Paris.

I agree that Antwerp is better for 3 days than Maastricht. There are lovely towns to day trip from Amsterdam under a hour away. Amsterdam is good for five days if you like museums. I also agree that Paris is irreplaceable on an itinerary. Note that independent travel is very different ( NOT "harder") than a river cruise.

Thanks for these suggestions .The cruise has allowed two days sightseeing in Amsterdam and we have allowed two more days more. Will take Antwerp suggestion on board and look at day trips.Small towns and villages are more our thing than museums. We may fly out of Paris to Dublin Thanks Rose
