Romanian toothpaste gets my vote.

I like that one, too. The title really "makes" it! But Nigel, your most recent and heartfelt post really made me think so I would be honored to nominate yours.

I'll go along with the Romanian toothpaste post, mostly because it embodies Rick's recommendation to either not bring something with you or let yourself run out of it in order to experience the local version. Sometimes those local versions of everyday items we are used to can be fun, scary, downright disgusting, or absolutely delightful.

I can't find this thread. Please share the link as I'm trying to discern the reasons for the fear Romanian toothpaste....Thanks.

Thanks Galen, that was mine! I have enjoyed each and every reply, and followed all the links posted. I really appreciated all of those who took the time to reply... I hesitate to post under that thread again cause it looks like it's finally dead in the water and I don't want to push it ahead of all the other threads yet again.

And I agree with the others. Toothpaste was just plain fun and Nigel's Viet Nam post was thought provoking.

Affording travel gets my vote. Anytime we can have a discussion involving Dave Ramsey, avoiding pmi, how the home interest mortgage deduction is overrated, whether night trains or en suite bathrooms are worth it, all in one thread, well how can one resist that combination.

Honourable mention for 'Carodejnice - witch burning' which piqued my interest!
