Possible January trip, good idea?

I will be off from January 10th 2026 to January 18th 2026. I'm thinking of going solo on a Malta & Southern Sicily (Ragusa/Modica/Scicli) trip.

My plan is to start 3 days in Malta, then I either take a ferry to Pollazzo (which has a bus that connects to Ragusa) or a short flight to Catania (which also has a bus that brings you from the airport straight to Ragusa)....then visit those 3 cities (Ragusa being the home base) and then return to Catania airport for my flight back home.

I will be going solo and no car and I don't plan to rent one, this trip will be on a budget, so that's one thing I don't mind cutting, the other will be lodging & food (I will be eating/buying my food in markets/grocery stores). The one thing I won't cheap out is on experience (ex.: Buying museum tickets, sightseeing tours etc).

To put it also in context, I've been to Sicily before, so I did already see the other big name Sicilian cities like (Noto, Siracusa/Ortigyia, Taormina, Catania and many more, I just didn't have time left to see the three towns I mentioned and they are very close to Malta.

Also, I am aware I am moving around a lot, but I have a light backpack and love the scenery from going to one place to another, so I don't mind it. It's not my first trip to Europe and I adapt very well in different time zone.

Beyond that, my question is really, "Is this a good plan?" and if not, "How would you improve it".

As long as you know that what is best about those places occurs in warmer weather. I prefer to go to places when they shine. That means Malta in May and June or September and October. Eastern and some of Central Europe in the dead of winter.

But, sure, you will have a very okay time. I love Malta.

fb132,
To me, any time I get a chance to travel and see something new is a good time. Not perfect weather, but if you can go, then go. My only caveat is to check and see if there are closures of places you want to visit during your time there.
(At 81, I try not to postpone anything!)
Buen viaje!
