After looking in 2 dictionaries, the only entry I found was "la glaciere/ cool box". I want to purchase an inexpensive cooler (styrofoam or similar material) + blue ice to use while we are traveling by car for a month. Is this the correct word? If not, what is? Are such items available; if so, at which kind of store? super marche?

I will agree about the ice. we carried a small soft insulated bag on a trip or two for picnics and to keep a beer cool. It worked well but gave up on regularly finding ice. Larger supermarkets would usually have some, but usually only a small bag meant for use in drinks, not to keep things cool. We would take advantage of refrigerators at hotels, freezing our water bottles, letting them cool the bag and having a cold water at the end of the day.

Thanks, guys.
I know finding real bags of ice is almost impossible, but if I can find a blue ice pack, will ask B & B hosts to freeze for me or us the water bottles. We will be in self-catering cottages for 3 wks so we're covered then.
Is "la glaciere" the correct word? I'm also thinking blue ice might be available @ a pharmacie.

If you are checking a bag you could just take blue ice with you.

I agree with Paul. I learned blue ice is a waste of money. If you have access to a freezer, then just freeze water bottles instead of blue ice.
