I am looking for suggestions as to the easiest and perhaps most direct way to get from the port of Rome (Civitavecchia) to either Nantes, France or Rennes, France. We're two older folks in our 70's and have a bit of trouble hauling luggage between trains, planes and buses but can do it if necessary. Thanks for your ideas...... Mike W
I think flying from Rome-Fiumicino to either Nantes or Rennes (likely with a change in Paris) will be your best bet. I think you may find more flight options to Nantes. I'd explore on skyscanner.com .
I don't know the easiest way to get from the port at Civitavecchia to Fiumicino.
Train (from Rome) is going to take you 16-20 hours so if you go that route, you might want to break it up into 2 days. Other option is to train to Rome and fly from there to Rennes or Nantes.
There may be buses to Rome airport, but there are 2 regional trains every hour that go there, changing trains at either Rome Trastevere, or Rome Ostiense.
There are buses that meet you at the cruise port transit station in Civitavecchia (called Largo della Pace) and take you directly to the airport--and they're a lot cheaper than what your cruise line charges for the same transfer. See www.civitatours.com for more details. Then fly to Nantes or Rennes.
BTW Mike, I think you know who I am. La Trinite is dead give-away.
